Got a few questions, may seem simple and stupid, but feel the need for reassurance.

Just picked up a 01 Kodiak 400 4x4 ultramatic. Felt like popping the side cover off because previous owner said they replaced stator, and I wanted to make sure it was done right.

First noticed woodruff key on the flywheel was sheared in half. Then saw the oil pump drive gear is cracked. Now the important thing, the rod that connects into the oil pump through the case is tough to turn, can't be done by hand, need pliers or a drill to turn. Should it be that difficult to turn? And if it should spin freely, would that indicate a "seized" oil pump, which would in turn cause the broken gear and woodruff key?

Thanks for any help in advance.
