Nowadays, motorsport helmets became mandatory in racing events because they work very well protecting the rider’s head in case of a crash. The first helmet was designed over a hundred years ago, before World War I when motorcycles became faster posing a greater danger to riders. Early helmets were made of thick leather pieces offering only a minimum level of impact protection. A British neurosurgeon offered a brilliant idea of a hard shell helmet when dealing with an increased number of head traumas among riders.
