Hey all. First let me say I came over from the dark side...my husband and I traded our KingQuad 400s for two 2012 Grizz 700 EPS. BEST DECISION WE EVER MADE. I loved my KQ, as it was my first ATV.

But I am IN LOVE with my Grizzly and absolutely blown away at the differences. To go from a SRA to independent suspension, and go from manual steering (where stumps and roots ripped the handlebars out of my hands) to EPS is like night and day. I have never been more happy with a purchase in my life. We can take hours long trail rides and not be tired or beaten down.

The Grizzly has a smooth ride, plenty of power, turns easily, and doesn't feel like a huge heavy ATV. I am truly impressed.

Ok, here is where I need some reminders/help:

What are the absolute essentials when you have a new ATV, especially one with independent suspension all the way around? I remember hearing that if anything I need to protect the... CV joint? A-arm? I can't remember. Not interested in a full body armor set right now, but I DO want to protect those elements that are prone to damage due to inadequate protection!

I have already upgraded the tires and rims, and new air filter is on order. I plan to get more ODI Rogue grips soon. Most of what we do is visual/for comfort, no engine work as we just do trail riding, creek crossing, and going through the occasional shallow mud hole.

Thanks for the welcome. Can't wait to learn more. So happy with my Grizzly I feel like a kid at Christmas! :laugh1:

Welcome to the GR! IMHO you just bought the best 4x4 quad made with that said there two areas that any Grizz can use an upgrade and that is tires and skid protection. Doing a full set of Skids from Ricochet tho is expensive it will save you in the long run. The sooner you do the whole pkg the sooner you will have that safe feeling piece of mind and be protected from most anything you may encounter on the trail.

Thanks for the warm welcome Hemi! Glad to be a member of the community; so much can be learned from you guys!!

I know I should spring for the whole body armor, and eventually I will. I know however, that I can buy certain pieces of coverage separately. For right now, that is what I need to do.

What pieces are the MOST important ones if you cannot afford the whole set right now?

Welcome from NV!
I agree. apart from tires, skids are definatly important. I made it over two years on stock skids with no damage and I beat the piss out of my grizz.
If you dont go through a lot of crazy ness I'd say that the stock A-Arm guards(cv protection too) will do you fine. but keep an eye on them. the belly pan and front bash plates are prolly the area that takes the most punishment and are prolly best to cover up first.

aslo, a good winch to get you out of those unforseeen sticky places. or at least a good long tow strap. just in case.

Another mod i absolutly love is my Rox risers and regular moto bars (throw some rox powermadds in for good measure.) they help me control my grizz so much better and from a better seating position. these improve looks and comfort 10x IMO.

Welcome aboard!! Also take a look at Aluminum Product skid plates. I've heard they are not as thick as ricoshet, but I've had great luck in the last 7 years running them on various atvs. Alos much cheaper. A full set is around $325. But is you are just wanting the most important peice, IMO go with the front and rear A-Arm gaurds, that way your boots are protected.
Good luck and enjoy the grizzly!! I have for 3 years, and still love it!!

Welcome! I agree, A-arm guards are a great investment if you don't want to purchase a complete set at the moment. I've had excellent luck with my Ricochet A-arm guards, and we should get a discount (or did when I purchased them).

:Shh: X2 on the Rox 5" riser/handle bar kits for Grizzlys. Much better rider ergonomics that allow for better seating position and more control with less wrist fatigue due to the motocross bend in the new bars. Also they get the handlebars out of your gut when making sharp turns. This is one of the first mods I would do to a new Grizz.

Welcome from Pennsylvania!
A-arm skids should cover those CV boots. my wife has a little over 2000 miles on her 550 with the stock skids without issue, but if you are riding in brush or mud holes a set of CV boot guards will help a ton.

I'n this case just get the A-arm guards then if that is what you need. On a side note I have full body armor minus the A-arm Skids and have not had any issues with all the crap I have put my Lava Grizz through. (Knock on wood!!!!) Tho some day I plan on adding these as well as the stock ones are just about worn through.

This is what I bought for mine 5-Piece A-Arm Guard Set (P/N 710A) I haven't seen such quality for a long time, made in the USA and reasonably priced. You can also obtain a code from grizzlyriders and get a 15% discount. Great company to deal with:s_cool:

if one is just trail riding, then I wouldnt see spending the money on skids. I trail rode mine without problems until i lifted it. I can see where the skids would help for the ones that go above just trail riding.

I dont have any skids on mine..took off the factory ones also. But I dont do the tech trail riding like some of yall do.

I would think the best thing would be some type of deflectors for the hands. I can see rocks being thrown up and hitting the hands which would hurt. I would also get a good winch. out trail riding, you might need one.

Since yall cross creeks and hit mud holes, I would suggest using dielectric grease on all electrical connections. also put some in the spark plug boot. This will keep the water out and the engine running. When you change the air filter, put some marine grease around the rubber seal. This will also help seal the box. OH, just fyi for stock engine stuff, the factory air filter is just as good as the aftermarkets.

Oh welcome to the Grizzyly

Good call on the hand guards. They are a life saver. im sure id be worn down to the elbow by now if i it weren't for mine. lol.
Powermadds are my favorite in looks and function, a bit tricky to mount but once you get em on you;ll love em.

I was wanting to do that to mine but looks like it will block the view of the instrument cluster, I tend to glance at it alot when sitting down and just cruising along. How is the view for that with the risers and bars ?

The risers pivot in the original handlebar mount and can be tilted back toward the rider for a better seating postion and adjusted so that you can see the display.
