Putting in a SW Terra 35 and I've decided the crimp I'm looking at here isn't something I can reproduce so I need to figure out who to take this wire to get the end put back on after I get it shortened to where I need it. Never having delt with wires this big I have no idea who I could go to just locally to get this done. What kind of (electrical?) business would deal with stuff like this?

If you have a place close by that works on golf cars they should be able to. Most make there own battery cables. Or a welding shop could probably hook you up. They often repair their own leads.

You can also buy a die set that you use with an anvil and hammer.

Though not necessary, I like to tin the end of the wire/cable before crimping on a connector. It helps keep the strands from corroding and makes a nice tight connection that doesn't flex as much.
A crimp tool isn't very expensive and handy to own.

Grumpy, about the tinning. I think that means to coat the wire ends with solder before you apply the end and crimp?

Any advice on how to heat this apparatus w/o burning the plastic off. That big wire is gonna need a lot of heat to get the center hot enough for the solder to flow through there.

Yeah, just heat the wire end and fill with solder. Soldering is something that you need a little practice with. You only use minimal heat and watch the plastic to see it reacting to the heat. Just take your time and you can put flux on the copper to make the solder sink in faster. Makes a more professional connection that you can show off to the girls! :grin2:
