As to oil, I'd look at the owner's manual and find out what spec codes they require. As long as your preferred brand has the minimum spec codes, you should be fine. Just remember, one of those codes supports wet clutch applications- that is important.
As an aside, I'm running Shell Rotella 5w-40 T6 Synthetic. I use this in my Duramax diesel and yes, it has the codes compatible with Yamaha's specs for wet clutch environments. (Mobil's Delvac is not compatible with Yamaha specs.)
As to the oil filter, I'm using the Baldwin equivalent to the Yamaha OEM filter. Sorry, I don't have the exact number- easy enough to look up on Baldwin's web site.
